I was diagnosed with Germ Cell Ovarian Cancer at 19. I am now 24 and in remission. I once thought that I would carry a certain fragility with me always after cancer, yet through yoga I noticed this sense of fragility become a gentleness. I treat it with compassion through my personal practice and learning of yoga, and I hope to share these benefits with other young cancer patients.

The teenage and young adult cancer bracket presents a unique set of observations and challenges, yet is frequently misunderstood. Post-cancer, this age group is at a point in life when it can be difficult to slow down. It is a time for many of university or the start of careers. However, it is seen as an uncommon age to get cancer, and I found the holistic help and healing methods available to me to be out of touch.

I truly believe that growing and nurturing a personal yoga practice is a beautiful way to be kind to yourself as you re-enter a world that, after cancer, runs fast and does not always ask how you feel. Yoga provides a platform where the changes a young person experiences after a life-altering diagnosis can be observed, felt safely, and accepted.
